This week, our vacation care group took a walk over to our local gelato shop to participate in an experience of making their own ice cream!

As the children walked into the store, they were greeted by the owner of the shop, Anna, who guided them into the back room for the children to begin learning.

The children participated in adding the ingredients to the jug of mixture and stirring it together until it was dissolved, before pouring it into the machine for it to mix and chill, turning it into ice cream.

While the children waited for the ice cream, the staff at Anna’s Gelato gathered a ladder for the children to stand on and watch another batch of ice cream be pasteurised.

The children were also shown the walk-in freezer, where they got to stand in there and feel how cold the temperature is for the ice cream to harden.
