‘We going to wash, wash, wash, wash away, wash away the germs,’ sang the Educators while they prepared the experiment with soap and green glitter to see how soap works by repelling the glitter in the water. Throughout learning experiment the children were flabbergasted with the ‘magical’ effect water had on the glitter.

The Educators had a rich and meaningful discussion and the following comments made by our children:

“Look the germs are swimming away.”
“The germs are scared.”
“OOOOOoooo yucky.”

The fun learning experiment gave educators the opportunity to engage in a conversation with children whereby they can visualise the germs/dirt often left behind and how important washing our hands with soap and water. In addition, the Educators modelled and guided the children in the correct hand washing procedure, a daily practice as Sonas.
