Sonas Baldivis North  – Sensory Tray

This morning, the children walked into the classroom and discovered a sensory tray filled with a variety of textured dry foods: rice, cheerios, bread crumbs, oats, cornflakes, and more rice.

The tray was an inviting landscape of different shapes and sizes, ready to be explored.

The children eagerly dove into the sensory experience. They ran their fingers through the soft oats and felt the crunch of corn flakes. To add an extra layer of fun, toy trucks and trains were placed beside the sensory tray.

The children began pushing and pulling these vehicles through the different textures, creating tracks and paths. As they played, the children talked about the various sizes of the materials and how the texture changed when the trucks and trains moved over them. They explored how the different textures felt under their hands and how the vehicles made different sounds as they traveled through the tray.

By the end of the morning, the sensory tray had provided a rich exploration of touch, size, and texture. The children not only enjoyed the tactile experience but also engaged in imaginative play, learning about the world around them through a delightful combination of sensory and play-based learning.
