Recently the children have been very interested in the birds that sit in the trees in our yard. The children point out the birds and talked to the birds when they visit us each morning and afternoon. We had a conversation with the children about what the birds might be doing and why they come to sit in our trees. Some of our children decided that the birds must be hungry and coming to borrow some of our food.

From this conversation, our educators decided to create bird seed feeders to further extend on their interest. Once the children’s bird feeders were set we gathered around and pulled them all out of their moulds. The bird feeders that were broken were placed into a bowl for the children to explore.

Jordan lead the children out into our yard to our trees and helped the children to hang their feeders on the branches. They all got to choose a branch that they thought the birds would enjoy sitting on to eat their bird seed.

The children enjoy watching by the veranda each morning and evening as the birds come and eat their seeds.
