This morning, while the children played at the playdough table in the art studio, I began to cut up shades of green and yellow tissue paper into small squares.

The children were all very curious about what I was doing and excited to hear about the activity they would be engaging in later.

After quiet time in the STEM studio, I brought out the cut-up tissue paper, some pots of glue with paint brushes, and pictures of a shamrock outline. The children came in groups of 2–3 to engage in the art, waiting for their turn and sharing the glue and tissue paper with each other.

Throughout the activity, I spoke to the children about St. Patrick’s Day, why it is celebrated, and explained that it is an Irish tradition and celebration and that the shamrock or clover is a very important symbol in Ireland.
