This afternoon, we gathered together outdoors as a group to search for sounds. We stopped playing and making noises; we slowed our bodies down and listened to the sounds we could hear in nature.

We walked all throughout our garden and heard all sorts of noises. The children seemed to think it was interesting to hear all of the noises and spot the source of the noises. We heard the leaves and trees rustling in the wind, cars and trucks driving by, an airplane, and crickets throughout our garden.

When we were finished, we had a big drink of water, then gathered together on the grass and shared a conversation as a group about our observational discoveries and how exciting it is when we slow down and listen to the sounds around us. This was a relaxing experience.

This afternoon’s experience focuses on developing the children’s ability to observe and describe observable phenomena, as well as group conversation and cooperation.
