Extending from We’re Going On A Bear Hunt book, we created a colour recognition game with a blue bear, yellow bear, red bear and green bear.

The same approach needs to be applied when teaching colours to children. It’s best to start with the primary colours (red, blue, and yellow), and once your child gets comfortable with these, move on to other colours. We then had to use tongs to pick up tiny counting bears and recycled bottle lids to colour match with the big bears and coloured salt.

Children experience many colours in their daily activities. They might have a favorited yellow cup or pair of striped socks. They like playing with the red blocks or the blue teddy bear. By pointing out individual colours in general conversation, as we play helps children with learning.

We help children recognise the different colours as help guild through picking up each bear or recycled lid to match to the coloured bear.
