Children gathered in our STEAM studio to participate in a programmed experience of building towers using small blocks.

We began by separating our group into two mats with two baskets of blocks, giving them creative space to decide how they would like to build their house.

Our groups began the process of constructing their houses. Through this experience, the children explored their teamwork abilities as they relied on their peers support through the building process regarding which blocks to use, what kind of structure they wished to make, and if it looked okay.

This experience promotes the children’s fine motor skills as they use their hands to pick up the blocks, hand-eye coordination abilities as the children place the blocks directly on top of other blocks, social communication as they converse with their group regarding their structures, and cognitive abilities as they create plans for how they wish to build their towers.
