Children gathered in our STEAM studio to participate in a programmed experience of messy and sensory play.

Using resources from our static provocations pre-set on our tables, the children asked to create play dough.

With this, we created a different style of dough called moon sand, consisting of cornflour and oil.

The children assisted the educator in mixing it together with their hands, promoting sensory exploration as they described how it felt as it changed consistency.

Discussions began at our table regarding what they would be using their moon sand to create, such as hiding their spiders within and attempting to dig through and find them, while also using natural resources such as leaves and sticks to turn their dough into animals.
