This week, the children and educators participated in science experiments using cornflour and water to make ooblex.

The children used their senses to explore the texture of the cornflour as it was placed inside the container. The children used words such as “soft, fluffy” and even that it feels like clouds.

The children then measured the water and carefully tipped it into the cornflour to get the correct consistency. One child stated, “It looks like milk,” as they carefully mixed it.

The children then explored the concepts as to why, when not touched, it would stay solid, but as they ran their hands through the ooblex, it turned to liquid. The children then compared it to lava erupting from a volcano.
