This morning we gathered in our yard to participate in a week long activity we have been working on as a group in creating a volcano, today we finally sat together and completed our experience by creating a volcanic eruption.

We began by sitting together on the path, inspecting our volcano to see if it is ready for our lava explosion and admiring our hard work we have put in.

Our group had noticed that with our volcano we also had a bottle of coke and some mentos which left our peers curious as to what we would need them for.
Through discussion we were able to create our very own hypothesis of what we think would happen which then transitioned us into moving our recourses to the grass so we could begin our experiment.

Educator Tiana explained to the group that the mentos would be placed in the cup built in the volcano and that we would pour the coke on top to create a lava like reaction which then we noticed through implementation didn’t react as large as we would’ve like.
Our group had questioned if there was a way we could create a bigger reaction so we grabbed our mentos and placed them straight into the bottles creating the reaction we were waiting for within seconds!

Our group wondered if it would work again pouring the coke into the top of the volcano so we once again created a hypothesis on what we believe would happen discussing together that the coke was now flat from placing the mentos directly into the bottle, so as we went around the circle each person either chose that it would explode or nothing would happen.

As some children thought, the mentos did not react to the coke which then completed our hypothesis and our experience.
