Children gathered around educators for their morning discussions around their favourite ice cream flavours, as the children are all familiar with Anna’s Gelato.

The children then continued within the discussion and asked if we could have ice cream at the service. Educator Amelie had then suggested that we create our own ice cream shop and “sell” ice cream to our peers. The children all agreed and became visibly excited to create their own ice cream shop.

We began by sitting down together to discuss limits (red and green choices). The children discussed what they believed to be green and red choices while participating at the ice cream shop.

The children then suggested that we create a sign for our ice cream shop. The children agreed that the sign needed a name and pictures of ice cream. Educator Amelie had then asked what we could use as our ice cream cones.

The children had suggested that we could create them or use our imagination, but the children preferred the idea of creating their own cones. Once the cones were made and the shop was ready, we opened our ice cream shop.

The children took turns being the tenants of the shop, as the other children lined up as they waited for their turn to buy their own ice cream cone.

The tenant asked each child what flavour they wanted; some of the flavours included vanilla, pink, green, and blue. The child who was the tenant would use the tongs available to place the pom-pom in the cone and pass it to the child who was waiting at the beginning of the line for their ice cream. The child who was the tenant would then take the money and move on to the child next in line.
